Top films to ride out lockdown with
As we near the end of lockdown, it still feels just that little bit out of reach. If you’ve burned through all of your favourite box sets and the latest Netflix releases, check out our list of must watch lockdown films. We’ve got you covered across all categories!
Films to watch if you need some escapism:
Onward
The latest epic adventure from Disney and Pixar, this coming of age story does not disappoint. Be warned, there might be a few tears… but good tears, we promise. Available on Disney+.
Spirited Away
Or really any of the Studio Ghibli cannon now available on Netflix. These fantastical worlds are the perfect distraction from December dreariness.
Films to watch if you’re feeling nostalgic:
Labyrinth
Give us that Bowie goodness, we could watch that man shake his blonde locks any day. If you’re looking to add some extra magic to the mix we still have tickets available to experience Labyrinth in our enchanting Winter Night Garden, post lockdown.
Hook
This hits a few categories as Robin Williams in an invisible food fight will always provide some well needed escapism. Let’s hear it for Pan the Man!
Films to watch if you need a cathartic cry:
P.S I Love You
Get all those tears out while Gerald Butler breaks your heart and Jeffery Dean Morgan serenades you, I mean Hilary Swank, with his guitar. Sometimes all you need is the luck of the Irish.
Lion
With 6 academy awards, this is the feel good movie you need to let those eyes do their watering. Will Saroo find his biological family? Grab the tissues because there’s only one way to find out.
Films to watch if you need a good laugh:
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
Any Jumanji film is worth watching (again and again) but Jack Black teaching Karen Gillian how to flirt is guaranteed to make your sides shake. Just remember “Hair. Is. Everything”.
Bridesmaids
This A-team cast brings their most hilarious lines and moves, promising plenty of belly laughs. Includes a great soundtrack for sing-a-long and heart-warming ending.
Films to watch if you’re starting the festive season early:
Home Alone
Does this even need to be on a list? We know everybody wants an excuse to watch this early.
#TopTip: get number 1 out of the way now and enjoy the arguably better sequel Home Alone 2: Alone in New York at Capital Studios in December.
It’s A Wonderful Life
If we ever needed a feel good recounting of George Bailey’s good deeds, now is the time. Crack open the mulled wine, Christmas is coming.
Films to watch if you’re missing nature:
March of the Penguins
Snuggle up and be grateful we’re warm and indoors, with this touching look into the Emperor Penguins lives. With bonus Morgan Freeman voice over.
David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet
The latest and ultimate David Attenborough film, now available on Netflix. Be prepared, the picture isn’t all pretty, suggested follow: YouTube + racoons hugging cat.
